AUSTRALIA
Actually I will not talk about the history about Australia. However, it will talk about Australia too. It is the name of a film. In this film we can see many things about Australia. How is the land, how is the people, the social conflicts that usually happen there. It is a nice film. Once again I told you that it will not describe the beginning Australia, the founding of this continent. This film takes pace in Australia. The director said because the film will be more interesting. This film is well serve so that we can see how the condition of Australia in 1890s. How there is so many people who has just come from England that have to be jailed. As we all know that Australia for the very beginning is used for the prisoner because England “has been so full.”
This film begins with a beautiful woman who comes to see his husband to Australia. She comes from England. This beautiful woman is Nicole Kidman. At the first time she comes, she was very surprise with the life style of those people in Australia. She got a therapy shock. She meet with a many harsh men, may be the men has just got their freedom. Mrs. Nicole Kidman gets the underwear tragedy. It is very funny. Do not miss this part! Then, this story goes on. She will be delivered by a man that someday will be her love. In the way to the place, we can see the kangaroo. It is a beautiful thing, she said. In fact, kangaroo have height more than the adult man can. It is very tall. Kangaroo also just live in Australia. You will never find it anywhere except in the zoo. At the time she arrived, she got another shock. Her husband has just died. She feels very sad. The only purpose she comes is just to see his husband. She is very angry with those people there. In that place, she found a strange child. This children name is Nulla. He is loved by Nicole Kidman. The reason is may be because she can not pregnant anymore. She feels like Nulla is her child.
There is another side of Australia. Like in America, there is also racist between the immigrants. There is oppression to the Asian-Australia. It is proved in the history. They are usually worked very hard but they just get very little. In Australia there is a slogan WAP (White Anglo Saxon Policy), a little bit different with the America WASP (White Anglo Saxon Protestant). Nulla’s mother died in one accident. He is so sad because it happens in order to safe Nulla and from this accident, Nulla getting closer with Lady Boss. The other interesting part from this film is about the love between Mrs. Ashley and Mr. Drover. At the first time they gather much kind of conflicts. However, there will a sweet love story afterwards.
In this film, we will also see the situation of the World War II. We will see how the Japan aggress Australia. As we all know that Australia is the common wealth of England. In World War I and II England also join the conflict. Australia as the common wealth also gathers the war. Even though they are nothing to do with the war, they have to. If we talk about story again, actually Australia is not agreed at all with the idea to join the war. Anyway, I will not make the summary of this film. I just want to make you a little bit curious with this story and will watch it. It is help me a lot about AEA’s history (America, Australia, and England), and I am sure that you will get the same advantage.

Milk
This is the title of a history film. You should watch this film, or you may be having watched this film before. This milk it is not like the milk that what you are thinking. Milk in this film refers to Harvey Milk. He is a great man. Actually he is a man. He is a gay, homosexual. Harvey Milk is the first gay (homosexual) that can be the representative of United Stated (San Francisco Supervisor). In this film we will see many things. We will see how the election of the United States at that time, many cases that show how is United States in the past.
Harvey Milk is an activist, a gay activist. He made many gay movements in his entire existence. He used to work in The Great American Insurance Company. Harvey Milk clearly opened his identity to all of the public of US. He made many open speeches about himself and also about his community (gay community). He showed all about theirs. Gay is not a disease. They have the same right in the world. They have right to be loved and also love. “I know I am not what you have expected, but I left my high hell at home”, this in one joke that he said in the film. May be it looks like a real joke, but actually he want to tell all of them that he had the feeling like a woman. It is the expression of his feeling. In this controversy is not oriented to the gay as well but also the lesbian.
He is the Mayor of Castro Street. It is how the people called him. He first does not have any plan to gather with the representative. The desire came when the police treated them so cruel in their community in Castro. This is the first place that gay community can openly show up their identity. In United States they treat the same with the Afro-American, Asian-American, and also the other immigrant. They got discrimination from the people so they do not show up theirs. They as gay discriminate in many ways. If you are a gay, you are not allowed to teach in school. Some parents give their argument that their children will be affected with the “gay teacher”. However, Harvey Milk answered all the hesitancy with a great statement “Ok, I grow in a normal family. I was born by heterosexual parents, teach by heterosexual teacher.” Although I grow up in heterosexual society, I am not affected at all. I still be who is the really I am. He is such a great “gay man.”
In the Castro Street, the gay community start made movement. Harvey led the movement. He went forward for the San Francisco Supervisor. However, it is not as easy as they think. Firstly, they fall. Harvey failed in the election. They started again their struggle. Their go forward in 1976. Harvey experienced so many for the one victory, but finally it came. It came not easily, with many refusal and also rejection. They always shouted “gay right now.” They fall again with Anita Bryant. This woman said that this gay is sick, they are wrong, there is no place for them in this country. The winning of Anita Bryant made them into a more nationalism movement so that the all country will see. Gay and also lesbian (there is interere lesbian to made Harvey Milk won) in Minnesota, New York, and another country do not need to hide in the closet again.
Finally, Harvey is elected. Everybody is so happy. Nevertheless, there is somebody happy with this news. He is Dan White. He got affected with this situation. He shoot Harvey milk and also suicide by jump from the office. Many people fee sad with this accident. It showed with the carnival with candle in the day of his death along the San Francisco. Everybody was mourning for him. How a sad ending? Otherwise, he has done his job. I believe there will be many more activists that will do the same thing to assist for their right. It is not for the gay, but for all people.

The Duchess
Have you ever been heard about the word duchess? I think you can identify this word from the morphology of duchess. Yes, duchess is the wife of the Duke and the woman that have rank of a Duke. However, in this case Duchess is the wife of the Duke. Actually I want to share about the film that I saw at Saturday night. I always spend all my time at Saturday night to watch many kind of film. During this semester I have kind big interesting to watch all about the WASP country. I like to know all the history. Unluckily, I am lack of vocabulary, so I can learn from the book easily. I prefer to learn more from the film. The other things that I can not do, I can not buy the original one. I think I will start to save my money every week so I can buy maybe 2 DVD at weekend. I also have desire that I can collect those entire DVD that have connected with the England.
Ok this film of course about Duchess. I think this film is nice. We get many positive things. This story starts when Georgiana Cavendish and the other girl and also the man are playing in the garden of Georgiana’s house. The girl took one of the men as her couple. Georgiana get the Charles Grey. Unfortunately, Charles Grey wins. He asked about a reward. However, this thing will never happen. Georgiana is called by her mother. Her mother has finally decided that her lovely daughter will soon married with the duke of Devonshire. He is old. I see finally Georgiana will be suffered by him. He has a lot of affair. Georgiana is forced to born a son for him. In the other hand, Georgiana can not. She has birth 2 daughter, and that may be makes the Duke makes affair. The worst affair is when her own friend finally betrayed her. Her friend that firstly come and say just want to stay a night, finally take her husband. It is ironic.
Let us talk about the other man. Charles Grey does not married yet. He still has the same feeling with Georgiana. What I have got from the way Charles is love is not that easier to forgotten. He still feels the same since a very long time ago. At that time Charles Grey join a political party. He plans to be the Prime Minister. In the way of his politics, Georgiana helps him morally. She always gives support for his love. In addition, even though he has known the condition of Georgiana, he still loves her. Georgiana that tends to be a perfect wife, duchess, and under pressure of birth a baby, founds something in Charles. Love is weird.
The ending of this film makes me a little bit disappointed. Charles Grey has to face the reality that Georgiana can not stay with him. Georgiana still have many reason to stay as the Duchess. The most important thing is her children. She can not just go and let her children alone rising by another people. I think she has done the right thing. All she has to do is to forget all the sweet things when she is with Charles. I also think that we should more aware with our friend. Anyway, what looks in the skin is not the same with the condition inside the skin. Lastly, I just want to say that this film is one of the nominations and won in the Academy Awards for the category the Best Costume Design. It is also nominated in many Awards. As far as I see, the costume is nice. In this film we will find a real picture of the Duchess, the elegance, the luxurious of a real duchess.
